ARCHIVE REVIVAL | WHATSAPPISATION OF SHIP OPERATIONS
Fast messages are useful at sea. Operational control by chat thread is different. This DeepDraft article reopens the risk of informal messaging entering formal ship-shore command. Full article:

Suez Canal costs jump from July 15.
Tankers, LNG carriers, bulkers and container lines must now recalculate Suez routing against Red Sea return costs, Hormuz safety warnings and Taiwan Strait bridge risk.

Hormuz cargoes are moving again, but this is not normal transit.
Named LNG and crude vessels have exited the Strait, while clearance risk now spreads into Malacca waiting zones, insurance files and charterparty decisions.
The chart shows position but does not show intention.

Took this today from sea.
Notice the exhaust.
A simple reminder that EGCS and MARPOL Annex VI are not just paperwork topics. They are very real, very visible, and very operational.

HORMUZ DARK-SHIP SURGE MEETS IRAN PERMISSION REGIME
Hormuz is moving, but not normalizing.
Industry transit guidance, AIS-dark movement, selective crude exits and elevated tanker rates show Gulf shipping remains constrained by permissioned passage, degraded visibility and war-risk pricing.

A methane rocket fireball over the ocean is called progress.
A merchant ship burning HFO is called the climate villain.
But here is the uncomfortable part.
When shipping burns fuel, every tonne is measured, reported, regulated and taxed.
When methane is vented, leaked or left unburned in spectacular test events, the accounting becomes far less visible, even though methane has far higher near-term warming impact than CO₂.
Shipping must decarbonise.
But climate honesty cannot stop at the ship’s funnel.

Iran’s Hormuz claim has widened.
May 4: control lines across the strait.
May 12: reported operating extent from Siri Island to Jask.
For Masters, CSOs and chartering desks, this is now a wider Gulf routing, war-risk and transit-planning problem.

Project Freedom has opened the first escorted Hormuz exit window, but this is extraction, not normalization.
Alliance Fairfax cleared under U.S. protection. Small-boat engagement claims remain disputed. ADNOC Barakah was hit. Fujairah risk is now elevated.
Hormuz is moving again, but only under force protection.
