Fantastic question by one of our viewers on the podcast: Is there an advantage in having larger mutable segments that hold a day’s worth of Data before transitioning into immutable segment? The main consideration is that you want to avoid having too many segments. Here are the key issues with having a large number of segments: 1.Segment pruning and query routing becomes costly - More segments mean more overhead in determining which segments to query 2.Increased load on Zookeeper - If a server has many segments, it leads to numerous state changes in the “External View” during events like server restarts 3.Loss of dictionary compression effectiveness - Many small segments reduce the effectiveness of dictionary compression, which increases the overall table size 4.Increased deepstore/S3 storage copies - More segments result in more copies of data in your deep storage The key is finding the right balance between segment size and count to optimize performance and resource utilization.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Thanks @HungryAnkit for answering.
