As Allergy Awareness and Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE) Awareness Week comes to a close, I’m taking a moment to reflect—with deep emotion and even deeper gratitude.
Nine years of age, my son Pete Schuh was diagnosed with EOE—a chronic, painful, and often misunderstood autoimmune disease. What followed was a childhood filled with doctor visits, scopes, strict diets, hospital stays, and more bravery than most adults will ever have to muster. Watching your child suffer and fight through something you can’t fix is a pain only a mother truly knows.
But Pete didn’t just survive—he defied. With fierce determination, an unshakable spirit, and faith in something greater, he found his way to healing. Today, he stands tall and healthy—in remission—and ready to write the next chapter in his story… a chapter fueled by purpose, perseverance, and football dreams.
From that hospital bed to suiting up for college football, you are living proof that the odds don’t define the outcome—you do.
Your story is still being written, Pete—and I cannot wait to see where it leads next. You make me proud every single day. Keep pushing, keep believing, and keep being the light for others still fighting.
I love you beyond words.
