Top 5 tips when applying for a design role:
⢠Please design your own CV.
A CV in Microsoft Word is not going to get you the job. Itâs your first chance to impress your employer.
⢠Remember to attach your portfolio!
This is one of the first things people look at. It should demonstrate your ability for the role.
⢠Apply for roles that actually match your experience.
Applying for a senior role when you are a junior is a waste of time for the candidate and employer.
⢠Donât include useless experience such as a gardener or swimming coach.
This is also a waste of time and will aggravate your employer. Instead, include experience relevant to the role.
⢠Always include a link to your LinkedIn page.
This shows you are a true professional and can validate who you are and what you say you have done.

When a design is not going your way hereâs what you need to do:
- Take a step back. Revisit the brief and goals for the client.
- Go for a walk or work on something different. Allow your brain to refocus.
- Spend some time sourcing inspiration and gathering ideas.
