The federal government allocated major funds for transport and communication projects in the 2026-27 development programme. It focused on roads, motorways, and railway schemes to improve national connectivity.
Officials said the government set aside Rs. 365 billion for transport and communication projects. They included this amount in the federal development programme to upgrade infrastructure across the country.
The government allocated Rs. 100 billion for the N-25 Karachi–Quetta–Chaman highway. It aims to improve connectivity with Balochistan through this key route.
Officials also allocated Rs. 30 billion for the M-6 Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway. They expect financing support from the Asian Development Bank for this project.
The government reserved Rs. 25 billion for the Karachi–Rohri section of ML-1. Officials plan to start work on this railway section in the next fiscal year.
They also set aside Rs2 billion for the Thar Coal Connectivity Project. This project will link local coal reserves with the national transport network.
In addition, the government allocated more than Rs. 93 billion for provincial transport projects. Officials said these funds will improve access and strengthen regional infrastructure across the country.
Officials said these projects will improve national connectivity and reduce travel time across major routes. They added that upgraded transport infrastructure will support trade, industry, and regional integration.
The government aims to strengthen economic links between provinces through better road and rail networks.
