Cancer is not only the second cause of death in the US but also Europe as well. This study looks at how to make telemedicine a regular and reliable part of cancer prevention and care across Europe. Telehealth has came a long way in terms of making an impact for cancer survivors such as providing better access to care and eliminating the need to travel. Resources like telehealth services provide better control for the patients in regards to their health. It's great to see that a project called eCan is making the difference to where it's assessing telemedicine’s role in cancer care, identify gaps, develop policy tools, and provide 16 key recommendations for sustainable implementation. Some of the challenges includes unequal digital access, low digital confidence, and unresolved legal, funding, and privacy issues hinder telemedicine adoption. This study matters for exercise oncology because telemedicine makes it easier for cancer patients to get personalized, ongoing care—especially when in-person visits aren't possible. Telemedicine enhances exercise oncology by improving access, maintaining care during treatment, and reaching underserved patients. It supports teamwork among healthcare providers and helps patients stay active long-term through virtual check-ins and digital tools. What's great is that a follow-up project called eCAN is launching in 2025 to continue this work and help more countries adopt these practices successfully. To make exercise programs for cancer patients available to everyone, they need to be part of digital healthcare. This study shows how telehealth can be built into cancer care systems across Europe—and potentially in the U.S.—so more patients can benefit, no matter where they live.
