#SeeMyAbility | A Week of Advocacy and Empowerment
Rhodes University Division of Student Services & Development is hosting Disability Week 2024 under the theme "I Am Not My Disability - See My Ability." This week-long event aims to promote awareness, accessibility, and inclusivity for individuals with disabilities within the university community.
The week started with Assistive Technology Showcases and interactive activities such as a wheelchair basketball tournament and a blindfolded obstacle course, encouraging participants to explore accessibility tools and raise awareness through sport.
The
@RhodesSRC will host a
#PurpleThursday Activation tomorrow, which includes poetry sessions, choir performances, fun trivia, and DJ entertainment.
The week culminates with a Disability Seminar featuring a panel of key stakeholders discussing the theme "Navigating the World of Work When Differently Abled." This final event will provide valuable insights from those living and working with disabilities, accompanied by music performances celebrating the abilities of the differently-abled community.
By the end of the week, Disability Week will have provided awareness and opportunities for learning, reflection, and collaboration on fostering a more inclusive university environment.
Stay tuned.
