Massive Blaze Destroys Four Houses in Upper Ribdi; LPG Cylinder Blast Injures Police Personnel
Gangtok, 13 Feb : A devastating fire broke out on Friday afternoon at Upper Ribdi in West Sikkim, completely destroying four houses and valuable properties, including important documents belonging to Ongchen Sherpa and Mingma Dorjee Sherpa.
According to local sources, the incident occurred near the PHSC and the secondary school area. At the time of the fire, the homeowners and their family members were not present, as they were reportedly on duty at the Panchayat Bhawan in Ribdi.
The blaze spread rapidly, causing extensive damage before emergency teams could fully contain it. Personnel from SSB Japan Ribdi BOP, Sikkim Police staff from Ribdi Outpost, the BDO office of Daramdin constituency, and the SHO of Sombaria Police Station rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information. School staff, PHSC staff, and local residents also joined hands in efforts to control the flames.
However, the situation worsened after an LPG cylinder exploded during the fire, intensifying the blaze and complicating rescue operations. During the firefighting efforts, one police personnel sustained injuries while attempting to control the situation.
Authorities are assessing the total extent of the damage, and further investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
