There is a huge discrepancy between the quota you get for Opus 4.8 in Claude Code compared to what they gave us for Fable. The discrepancy is a multiple of the price difference you pay when using both models via API.
Fable is priced at twice the API price of Opus 4.8.
I am definitely not burning through an equivalent quota when I am working in Claude Code with 4.8. I am running it all the time in "Ultracode," meaning max reasoning effort plus additional agents and validation tasks.
Essentially, for every sprint or task where the main agent burns approx 500K token, I am burning about 1.5 million tokens in total, and it doesnโt get even close to emptying the quota tank like Fable did.
Something is very off.
So even when I ran Fable on X (extra high, not even max), it was definitely burning much more than twice the quota than Opus 4.8 is burning in UltraCode mode.
So they made Fable 5, in direct comparison to Opus 4.8, artificially much more expensive in the subscription than they are planning to sell it via API, which is just another proof of the very questionable ethics of Misanthropic.
