AI in Nigerian Classrooms — Opportunity or Overhype in 2026?
As a School Principal who also builds custom school management systems, I see both the huge potential and the real challenges every day.
The Good Side:
1. AI can help personalize learning for our diverse students.
2. Teachers can generate lesson plans, quizzes, and reports faster.
3. Tools like Grok, ChatGPT, or local platforms (uLesson, Edves) are already supporting admin work and creative teaching.
4. Nigeria’s revised curriculum now includes AI, robotics, and digital literacy — a big step forward.
The Hard Reality:
1. Unreliable power and internet still block many rural and public schools.
2. Many teachers need proper training and confidence to use these tools effectively.
3. Cost and equity issues risk widening the gap between urban private schools and others.
We must protect academic integrity and ensure AI supports — not replaces — critical thinking.
AI won’t replace teachers, but it can make us more effective if we approach it wisely.
