The economics were pretty compelling for the MBTA: $40 milllion from the federal Low-No Emisions program, $116 million from the federal government for 80 electric buses $2 million in MassDOT matching funds, $371.5 million from state funds for the Arborway bus facility to be 100% BEB-ready, plus several additional small grants on top of that.
And were left with quieter streets, cleaner air, a brand-new bus yard that can support more routes, ~8 acres unlocked for housing and mixed-use development, and lower ongoing maintenance costs and downtime.
