With the crushing amount of car traffic that Cape Cod sees, it begs the question why we haven’t revived Amtrak’s previous Cape Codder service? There are so many license plates from NY and NJ, so why not enable them to take the train instead?
The Cape and Islands are lovely, but at what point is the traffic hassle just not worth it? Today's Starting Point wrestles with the big question. trib.al/QoCdKw3

We could’ve had MBTA service to the World Cup from Worcester, Framingham, and Providence
You can connect the suburbs of Boston too via a handful of little used rail lines. It’s possible to go from Providence -> Mansfield -> Walpole -> Framingham!

If the MBTA actually makes the commuter rail fully electric, we should give Springfield all of the existing diesel equipment to bring MBTA commuter service out west. The revitalization of Springfield is in our future.
Say something nice about Springfield, MA.

Welcome home, Scotland
More than a thousand Scotland supporters hired a fleet of yellow school buses to take them to Boston Stadium for the World Cup on Saturday. It started as a novel way to save money on transport, but the yellow school bus has become a symbol of the Tartan Army. Full story below

BUILD THE NORTH-SOUTH RAIL LINK BTW
A single-ticket, single-seat ride from - Nashua, NH - Portland, ME - Worcester, MA made possible by the North-South Rail Link that then enables you to take the Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket ferries would be a huge leap in mobility for the region.

The transit community now needs to do what it does best: Show the MBTA the right path to take (EMUs).
the #MBTA costs are out for the BEMUs. they’re the most expensive rolling stock ever procured. but not just that—at roughly $25m/car ($525m npv over 21 usable cars), they are 2x more expensive than any other rail cars ever bought

Results look amazing! The A Street / Congress Street light cycle will be adjusted to ensure traffic queuing on A Street is mitigated during heavy traffic periods. Additional residential parking was created on Melcher Street.

Let me be clear. If we want an abundance of housing in the future, then we can’t allow rent control. It’s a bandaid on a supply problem. Everyone needs to call their reps to prevent this alternate rent control bill from passing.
Mayor Michelle Wu threw her support behind a compromise rent control proposal that tenant advocates and a group of high-powered real estate developers unveiled earlier this week in a bid to avoid a brutal ballot fight this fall. trib.al/GeAXbR2

Transit should not be free for everyone. That would take critical money away that would otherwise be used for expansion, maintenance, higher frequency. If you want to massively boost the Massachusetts economy, then the federal government should fund the North-South Rail Link.
Boston’s fare free buses have boosted ridership and saved riders’ money. Boston’s success shows it’s time to pass my Freedom to Move Act with @RepPressley so any community can reap the benefits of fare free transit.

This applies to the MBTA’s order for electric buses. Making transit sustainable is great, but making it frequent and easy to use is paramount.
transit agency budget: $1.2 million per electric bus, $80k per charger, $14 million depot retrofit, $0 for more service, one (1) instagram post about sustainability. someone who is good at the economy please help me budget this

Electric buses are genuinely a huge quality of life improvement for riders though. The smoothness and quietness of electric buses are hard to put in words because they are truly in a different league.

An open letter to @SecWar: Massachusetts needs to rebuild critical Cape road infrastructure which will impact Americans that need to drive to their jobs. Can the US Army Corps of Engineers approve the use of the beautiful Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge for commuter trains?
