Nigeria and the International Social Security Association (ISSA) have strengthened their partnership to advance social security and employee protection, reaffirming a shared commitment to improving workers’ welfare and compensation systems. The commitment was highlighted during a meeting on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, where ISSA Secretary-General, Marcelo Abi-Ramia Caetano, met with a delegation from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) led by Executive Director, Administration, Mr Samaila Abdu, on behalf of Managing Director, Mr Oluwaseun Faleye. Caetano commended NSITF for successfully hosting the recent ISSA conference in Abuja and praised the Faleye-led management for its dedication to strengthening social security and protection across West Africa. He also acknowledged the Fund’s continued support for ISSA’s programmes in Africa and globally. The Abuja conference, held in April 2026, brought together social security institutions from across West Africa to discuss improving inclusiveness and access to social security services through effective communication.
