I am opposed to the collectivism of bigotry that comes from the current wave of nativism. The examples of schools in Newark show a success story in having the former English Language Learners pass the NJSLA exams. The reality is that student immigrants learn English many ways, including the media, movies, ELL classes, and the communication with English speakers. This has also been my personal experience. Those who claim that "these people are not true Americans", should consider their own ancestors, who have come to the US seeking a better life. Were they not Americans? Had they not come to America, would they be here, today? What separates someone being born in the US and someone who was not, other than a choice, done by the individual, or the parent, or parents? I celebrate our strength through diversity.
