Research Innovation from NIT Rourkela Secures First Rank at Rajasthan Green Innovation Challenge 2026! Prof. Subhankar Paul and his team of PhD scholars, Mr. Amit Shyamal, Mr. Ashutosh Kumar Singh, and Mr. Tarini Ashish Sahoo from the Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering secured First Rank at the 'Rajasthan Green Innovation Challenge (RGIC) 2026'. Organized by the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) in association with Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, the challenge was held from 3–5 June 2026 at @NIT_Jaipur. The award was presented by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, in recognition of the team's outstanding contribution towards sustainable and environmentally focused innovation. As part of the event, the team also showcased their innovation through an exhibition stall at MNIT Jaipur, engaging visitors, researchers, industry representatives, and policymakers. About the Innovation: The team's patented Solar-powered Spherical Floating Photocatalyst System (SFPS) is an advanced wastewater treatment technology designed for industrial-scale applications. The floating photocatalyst spheres efficiently harness sunlight to treat sewage water, dairy and textile effluents, antibiotics, pesticides, and other organic pollutants without requiring external energy input. The technology can also disinfect water by eliminating microorganisms using sunlight or artificial light and remains effective for up to 50–60 reuse cycles. Offering a sustainable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective alternative for industrial wastewater treatment, SFPS has the potential to significantly reduce treatment costs while supporting environmental sustainability. Congratulations to Prof. Subhankar Paul and his team on this achievement.💐 @EduMinOfIndia @RSPCB_official #NITRourkela #ResearchExcellence #Innovation #RGIC2026 #GreenInnovation #Sustainability #WastewaterTreatment #CleanTechnology #Biotechnology #EnvironmentalEngineering #WaterTreatment #PatentedTechnology #MNITJaipur #RSPCB #AcademicExcellence #ResearchImpact #AtmanirbharBharat #ScienceForSociety #MakeInIndia #HigherEducationIndia

🎓 Class of 2026 What began as a freshman religion class project grew into a schoolwide composting initiative. As president of the Eco Club and a peer minister, St. John's senior Aziza Kennedy helped launch a program that reduces food waste and promotes care for creation. This fall, she will attend Georgia Tech and plans to study environmental engineering. "The reason it's important to me is food waste is a major contributor to global warming through greenhouse gas emissions." 📖 Read more at CATHSTAN.org #ClassOf2026 #CatholicEducation #CareForCreation #EnvironmentalEngineering

🌍 World Environment Day 2026 at Delhi Technological University (DTU) 🌱 On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, in association with the Institute Innovation Council (IIC), Delhi Technological University, organized a thought-provoking lecture and symbolic tree plantation activity on 5 June 2026. We were honored to host Er. Rajesh Banga, Additional Director General (Works), CPWD, Government of India, who delivered an insightful lecture on “Eco-friendly Construction Technologies being used in CPWD.” The session provided students, researchers, faculty members, and professionals with valuable perspectives on integrating sustainability into large-scale public infrastructure projects. Key sustainability initiatives highlighted by the speaker during the session: ♻️ Construction & Demolition Waste Recycling Recycling C&D waste into aggregates, paver blocks, and non-load-bearing wall materials, demonstrating the principles of a circular economy. 🌳 Tree Conservation & Transplantation Adopting tree transplantation practices with significant survival rates and large-scale compensatory plantation to enhance green cover. 🏗️ Sustainable Building Materials Utilization of fly ash, recycled sand, gypsum plaster, fly ash bricks, curing compounds, and double-glazed units to reduce environmental impact. 💧 Integrated Water Management Implementation of wastewater treatment, rainwater harvesting, water recycling systems, and sensor-based fixtures to optimize water use and promote circularity. ☀️ Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Integration of solar energy systems and energy-efficient technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of institutional buildings. 🌱 Waste-to-Resource Practices Conversion of organic waste into manure through integrated solid waste management systems, supporting resource recovery and sustainable campus ecosystems. A special highlight of the event was the launch of the website and mobile application of “Paryavarnam,” the Department’s weekly environmental newsletter dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and knowledge dissemination. The celebration concluded with a symbolic tree plantation activity outside the Department premises, reaffirming our collective commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. We extend our sincere gratitude to Er. Rajesh Banga for sharing his expertise and inspiring insights, and to all participants whose enthusiastic involvement made the event a success. #WorldEnvironmentDay #WorldEnvironmentDay2026 #EnvironmentalScience #EnvironmentalEngineering #SustainableConstruction #GreenBuildings #ClimateAction #Sustainability #CPWD #Paryavarnam #GreenCampus #SustainableDevelopment
