6 & a half years ago, Nisha & I sailed for our first time with #IODP on @TheJR as students. It is incredible to be working together again but at the #IODP Program Manager Office (PMO) level to enable more people to experience the incredible opportunity we had 🫂🤗

ALT Radiolarians' glass skeletons are like microscopic clocks preserved in the rocks. Specialists can tell the age of a rock layer by the radiolarians within. Evolved more than half a billion years ago, these single celled plankton are still abundant in the ocean today, ticking away.

Stevens et al. (2021) find that the interplay between an impermeable barrier and the expulsion of fluids from sediments affects the level at which the plate boundary forms, and has implications for earthquake behavior.

Happy #SectionSaturday! Below is 362-U1480G-11R-3A collected on #IODP #EXP362: Sumatra Seismogenic Zone. According to a recent report (link below), this brown fragment is "believed to be the largest wood fragment cored in scientific ocean drilling history."
