Happy #SectionSaturday! Below is 375-U1526B-4H-4A from #EXP375: Hikurangi Subduction Margin, collected off of northern New Zealand. This one section contains Cretaceous and Holocene material, so this 127 cm of core spans over 60 million years of time!

Happy #SectionSaturday! Featured below is an Mn nodule in 329-U1370D-2H-2A from #IODP #EXP329: South Pacific Gyre Subseafloor Life. Mn nodules grow extremely slowly (over millions of years) & we still donโt fully understand how they form. The process may be mediated by microbes!
