Dear EFCC Management,
This is an open and unapologetically honest letter, written on behalf of thousands of concerned Nigerians who are tired of the blatant abuse, discrimination, and double standards your agency has continued to display in the course of your so-called anti-corruption war.
Your recent actions parading and humiliating poor Nigerian youths under the guise of "currency abuse" and "internet fraud" have exposed what many already know: EFCC has become a tool that crushes the weak while bowing before the powerful. You drag struggling youths on social media and into courtrooms with speed, yet you remain curiously silent, even timid, when it comes to the billionaires who loot our national treasury with impunity. Why are the poor always your target, while the rich are given red carpet treatment?
You tweeted not long ago that "no one is above the law." But your actions say otherwise. It appears that only the poor are beneath the law, while the elite are shielded from scrutiny, trial, and even arrest. If justice must work, it must be blind-blind to class, status, or connections. But the EFCC has proven time and again that it sees only what it wants to see and pursues only those it dares to pursue: the powerless.
Furthermore, instead of investing so much energy into embarrassing citizens online and destroying reputations overnight, why not work with the government to create jobs, empower the youth, and reduce the very poverty and desperation that fuels fraud in the first place? It is easy to arrest a hungry man. What’s difficult and more meaningful is building a system that feeds him, employs him, and gives him dignity.
You have also attempted to silence voices online by intimidating those who speak out against your methods. Let this serve as a reminder: freedom of speech is a constitutional right. Every Nigerian has the right to speak against injustice and abuse of power, and no agency is above criticism not even EFCC.. since nobody is above the law 🤷
If EFCC wants to be taken seriously and respected as an unbiased institution, then stop the selective justice. Start investigating and arresting everyone equally. Start addressing the root causes of fraud, not just its symptoms. And above all, treat Nigerian Regardless of class with the fairness, dignity, and respect they deserve.
We demand accountability, not oppression.
We demand justice, not fear.
We demand reform not intimidation.
From A Concerned Nigerian who is speaking up!..
