Students of the Islamic Economics course at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), taught by Assistant Professor Dr. Admir Mešković, took part in a field-based learning visit to key waqf (vakuf) sites, exploring the economic foundations of endowments in practice.
A highlight of the visit was an in-depth discussion of Gazi Husrev-beg’s vakufnama, examining how ethical principles were transformed into concrete rules for governance, sustainability, and public benefit. Through on-site observation and guided dialogue, students gained insight into waqf as a long-term socio-economic institution - one that connects faith-based values with sustainable asset management and community development.
This experience reflects IUS’s strong commitment to applied learning and to preparing students to understand and shape the future of Islamic social finance.
