So far the only people I really see defending Plex’s bad behavior bait and switching are people who already have a lifetime pass and aren’t impacted. However, know that once companies go down this path they ultimately bait and switch their lifetime pass holders also. Just ask
@FilmicPro which I also no longer use despite having a “lifetime” pass. Bait and switch isn’t good regardless of who does it. Charging for core functionality of your “free software” that isn’t dependent on their server infrastructure like “direct connect” which is default in Plex invalidates every review of the product that pushes it to the top of every marketplace. BTW I have a lifetime Plex Pass, I’ve had it for like 10 years. But, you know me well enough by now to know I don’t only engage on issues that negatively impact me. I engage issues that impact others knowing that allowing the bad behavior to go unchecked will ultimately land my door in some form soon enough. There are better ways for Plex and
@FilmicPro to do business that doesn’t use people for positive software reviews to place their app at the top of every search engine based on functionality they no longer have that was always available in the free package without any limitations with other parts of the software being “for sale” as upgrades. It’s not an upgrade to take something away and resell it back to people, ever. Just saying, you defend bad behavior because you’re not impacted yet and you will eventually be impacted by letting the company know you’ll tolerate it leading to other companies falling suit. I’m all for paying for good software that is “pay software”. I’m against people using free software to gain positive reviews and migrate people under false pretenses to pull the rug on them after they invested so much time. We will talk about this with

I agree,
@plex can go f**k themselves for bait and switching people like this. Remote streaming doesn’t even depend on their infrastructure at all since it’s peer to peer. Comment below with some good open
source alternatives to Plex since they need to go. 👋
