Zambia Sugar has delivered a resilient set of 2025 results despite what Managing Director Oswald Magwenzi describes as a “perfect storm” of low rainfall, power shortages, and a depressed economic environment in an interview with Financial Insights' Clarence Chongo. The company recorded K8.8 billion in revenue, up 18%, showcasing strong adaptability in a challenging agribusiness year.
A sharper product mix and a strengthened route-to-consumer strategy helped drive this performance. By prioritising household and brown sugar, investing in last-mile resellers, and expanding into underserved areas through container outlets, Zambia Sugar improved product availability and market reach. These efforts supported revenue growth even as costs surged 39%, with the company absorbing much of the pressure rather than fully passing it on.
Despite the steep rise in costs, Zambia Sugar delivered a profit of K1.6 billion (2024: K2 billion), maintaining solid value for shareholders. With ongoing investments in customer service facilities, factory optimisation, and modern irrigation systems, the company remains well-positioned for continued growth across both local and regional markets.
