Nine years have passed since the retirement of the last Westland Sea King HC4 “Junglie” helicopters from the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm. Of the 42 examples originally built for the Royal Navy, only two remain airworthy today. One is preserved and operated by Historic Helicopters in the United Kingdom, while the other has found a new lease on life in Cyprus, where it is now employed in aerial firefighting operations from Andreas Papandreou Air Base at Pafos. I witnessed this historic aircraft in action during a major wildfire near the city of Limassol, where it performed an average of 40 water-drops in two sorties per day across multiple fire zones last week.

🔊The video captures a lone helicopter attempting to douse the raging fires caused by the chemical explosion at Bandar Abbas.
Despite its efforts, the scale and intensity of the blaze make it clear that this approach alone is insufficient to contain the disaster.

A local airport photographer, Carl, captured this great picture of the @Sikorsky N60CU while we were at the Reno Stead airport (KRTS) this week in Nevada.
