Every time. What's more, if I'm on a bus with my manual-wheelchair-using kid & a power-chair user is waiting at a stop, my kid WILL transfer to a seat & the manual WILL be folded to make room. Those with greatest need get greatest consideration. Babies can (& do) sleep anywhere.

@FirstYork I'm still not seeing any response from you. Perhaps to do with the bank holidays. If you're running services you should be running your social media. Address this ableist and illegal behaviour in your drivers and let Ms Williams know what steps you're taking.

Wow๐Ÿ˜ฎ art is in the eye of the beholder. You should put something in just to show them ๐Ÿคฃ

Oh, donโ€™t get me wrong! I was often pissed off if I had to wake my sleeping baby to give room for a wheelchair. But itโ€™s the right thing. Iโ€™m appalled at how difficult it is for wheelchair user to access public transport too. Improving that would improve it for pushchairs too ๐Ÿ˜Š

I am not a wheelchair user. I have used buses with a pushchair. Yes, itโ€™s inconvenient/really annoying to have to get a sleeping child out of it, but itโ€™s something I can do. The wheelchair user doesnโ€™t have the choice to get out of their wheelchair.

Yes. Wheelchair users take priority over prams, even with sleeping babies in them. Not only should the driver know this but everyone who uses buses too.

@FirstYork I canโ€™t see a reply from you. Please confirm the action that will be taken to educate your drivers on this matter. What action will be taken with this driver? What will you do to put this right for Flick. Many thanks.
4
Yep.
Replying to @flickhwilliams
It is established case law thanks to the tireless efforts of @Doug_Paulley that wheelchair users take priority. Notices on the bus say so but not much use if the driver wonโ€™t let you on the bus. If your drivers donโ€™t know that First Bus company that is your failing. Big mistake.

This idea that infra/ services are bad for everyone so โ€˜itโ€™s equalityโ€™is so far from basic understanding of equality or inclusion, would be laughable if this wasnโ€™t attitude of ppl making decisions too. I think we may need to get disability legal action going tbh ๐Ÿ‘#ClosedToUs

Do you really think that's equality, by treating every individual the same? Seriously??? How is not providing a ramp to the bus giving the same chance of using the bus as an able-bodied person? Or how is providing a ramp preferential treatment?
1
This is not how it works. The priority seats at the front of the bus you don't just plonk yourself down as an able bodied sportsman saying first come first served.

The wheelchair space is wheelchair priority. The buggy space is for buggies. If your baby is asleep and the buggy space is already full you either gamble on taking the empty wheelchair space & being asked to fold/move or you wait for the buggy space in the next bus.
2
Parents donโ€™t have to leave the bus. Prams fold. Parents can hold their baby. Do you suppose they exclusively push their child round their home?? Not having to fold their buggy on a bus is a convenience which is not afforded to a wheelchair user. Wheelchair users take priority.

2
Yep. As a parent I regularly had to move the pushchair for wheelchair users.

Appalling but York has a city wide culture where disabled people don't matter ? You sure about that ? That's a big generalisation ? By the way @firstbusyork is now @firstyork, I don't know if the first one is still monitored, didn't want your efforts wasted if they don't look
