This was an incredibly emotional and joyful moment for both my mom and me. I remember the years after high school filled with college and scholarship rejections and watching my mom absorb my pain and sadness as she worked to constantly uplift my spirit. She would always remind me to never give up, assuring me that one day things would get better. Often, she would give me her last few coins to go to the internet cafΓ© and keep trying and reapplying over and over again. We would dream together about how we would celebrate when I finally get a scholarship and ultimately become a doctor. She recognized my potential and nurtured it.
Early in my journey, she would call me Dr. Bah, and as time passed, I began to believe it myselfβthat I too could become a doctor and that there were no limits to my potential. More than anything, she instilled in me the belief that whatever is meant for me, Allah will make it happen, God willing. She taught me to have patience and to never lose faith in God. This journey has not been easy, but through it all, she reminded me that God is in control. Whenever I faced failure, she encouraged me to reflect on how far I had come, to be grateful, and to pick myself up and keep pushing forward. Those tears of joy in the video are from a woman who has sacrificed so much to help me reach where I am today. This caption barely captures my appreciation for her efforts, but if thereβs one thing to take away, itβs that with perseverance, patience, prayer, and an incredible mom, you can achieve anything.
This is the fuel that keeps me going. Celebrate every win and salute to all the amazing moms out there!
