I am still trying to understand this shenanigan tantrums. MultiChoice, one of South Africa's biggest companies, is now controlled by a French company. FNB, RMB and WesBank are owned by FirstRand, one of the country's largest financial groups, not a black-owned company. Many of South Africa's biggest corporations were built by, controlled by, or heavily influenced by non-black South African or foreign capital. But somehow the Nigerian barber, Zimbabwean teacher, Ghanaian trader or Malawian worker is the biggest threat to the economy? Make it make sense.
The whole world is seeing their stupidity and its a low blow even for themselves

Below is a list of South African companies in other African countries: Telecommunications MTN stands out as one of the biggest success stories. It operates in nearly 20 African countries, with a particularly strong presence in Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, and Cameroon. It’s not just about calls and data — it's mobile money services have become part of daily life for millions. Vodacom has a solid presence in East and Southern Africa, with operations in Tanzania, Mozambique, the DRC, Lesotho, and, more recently, Egypt. Banking and Financial Services Standard Bank is one of the most widespread South African banks on the continent, with operations in around 20 countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Botswana, and the DRC. Absa (formerly part of Barclays Africa) has banks or operations in about a dozen countries, such as Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Mozambique. FirstRand (which includes FNB) has expanded into several Southern and East African countries, including Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Ghana. Sanlam has grown its insurance and financial services footprint across many African markets over the years. Retail Shoprite is Africa’s largest supermarket chain by some measures. While it once had stores in places like Nigeria, Kenya, and the DRC, it has since focused more on Southern African countries such as Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, and Mozambique. Pick n Pay maintains a presence in Zimbabwe (through its stake in TM Supermarkets), as well as in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Mozambique. PEP stores are quite common in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and other Southern African countries. Media and Entertainment MultiChoice (through DStv and GOtv) is one of the most recognisable South African brands across Africa. Its pay-TV services reach viewers in dozens of countries. Mining and Resources AngloGold Ashanti and Gold Fields are well established in gold mining, with major operations in Ghana and a presence in countries like Tanzania and the DRC. Hospitality and Gaming Sun International runs hotels, resorts, and casinos in countries such as Zambia, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia, and Nigeria. Other Notable Players Aspen Pharmacare manufactures medicines in Kenya and Tanzania and supplies products across the continent. Bidvest and Sasol also have operations in several African countries, particularly in services, logistics, and energy projects (Sasol has a notable presence in Mozambique).

Our local banking sector still remains pretty effeciently priced. Capitec needs to keep up its returns or will de-rate, ABSA's valuation has priced in a better forward ROA and Nedbank's a worse. Firstrand and Standard Bank just need to maintain their quality.

The Bank of Namibia recently welcomed a delegation from FirstRand Group, led by FirstRand Namibia CEO Mr Conrad Dempsey and supported by broader Africa executives Mr Andries du Toit and Mr Bydon Longwe, alongside senior representatives from FirstRand Namibia, for a courtesy visit with Governor Ebson Uanguta. The engagement provided an opportunity for FirstRand Group to gain deeper appreciation into the Bank of Namibia’s strategic priorities and expectations for the banking sector, while reaffirming the Group’s commitment to supporting Namibia’s economic and social development. The discussions highlighted the importance of a strong and collaborative relationship between regulators and financial institutions, underpinned by a shared objective of building a robust, inclusive and sustainable financial sector. Governor Uanguta welcomed the delegation and emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors to advance Namibia’s developmental agenda. He highlighted the Bank’s focus on strengthening economic research and expanding access to quality data to support evidence-based policymaking, while encouraging the banking sector to contribute to building a stronger research-to-policy pipeline. The discussions also explored Namibia’s emerging opportunities, including the oil and gas sector, and the importance of ensuring that growth is balanced and inclusive. Governor Uanguta underscored the need to continue supporting key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and other productive industries that are vital to economic diversification and long-term resilience. He further stressed the importance of ensuring that future resource revenues contribute to support sustainable development and intergenerational prosperity. The FirstRand delegation reaffirmed its alignment with the Bank’s vision, highlighting its commitment to shared prosperity, meaningful local participation and ensuring that financial services remain accessible and relevant across all segments of society. Another bank like FirstRand #FNB is also convenient about legalality. They shut down client accounts WITHOUT any legal merit whilst their CEO, @CelliersJ1 is involved in bribing #DA councillors (you can't make this stuff up 😂) mg.co.za/politics/2021-02-01…
