🧵State Dept spox: “We can confirm reports of a shooting incident today outside our Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. There were two fatalities, including a member of the Consulate’s local guard force as well as the assailant, who was killed by Saudi security forces.

I had just started my Foreign Service career and was touring the Operations Center that day with my new colleagues and we saw the TVs with the same downward pointing graphs as today, just less splashy. Not a good #ForeignServiceLife memory, but feels worse today.
