🧪🔬 Happy National Forensic Science Week! 🔬🧪
Sept. 14–20, 2025
We’re proud to shine a spotlight on the incredible work of the LVMPD Criminalistics Bureau during National Forensic Science Week. From collecting evidence in the field to analyzing DNA in the lab, each step helps bring truth to light, support investigations, and serve justice in Southern Nevada.
Here are just a few of the specialized units whose expertise makes a difference every day:
🧬 Biology / DNA (Casework & CODIS/Database Units): Handling evidence from homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, burglaries, and more.
🖐️ Latent Prints: Enhancing and comparing fingerprints (“latent prints”) to known prints, often using AFIS to help identify persons of interest.
🎯 Firearms Detail: Examining firearms and ammunition—matching bullets and casings, and conducting tool‐mark comparisons—to help reconstruct events.
✅ Seized Drugs: Testing and identifying controlled substances to support drug enforcement.
👩🔬 Toxicology: Analyzing biological samples to detect and measure chemicals, poisons, or substances.
🔬 Trace Materials: Examining fibers, hair, paint, glass, and other small but critical evidence to help link people, places, and things.
📸 Crime Scene Investigations (CSI): Including Crime Scene Detail and Photographic Detail, who collect and document evidence where incidents occur.
To the men and women in these units: your dedication, attention to detail, and scientific rigor are essential to every investigation. You help give voices to evidence, clarity to uncertainty, and justice to victims.
Thank you for all you do—and thank you to the community for your trust and support.
