🙏 If We Pray “Forgive to Be Forgiven”… Why Does Paul Say We’re Already Forgiven in Christ?
📖 “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” — Ephesians 4:32
That’s not a prayer request — that’s a present reality! 💖
Under the kingdom program, Jesus told His disciples:
“If ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” — Matthew 6:14-15
👉 That was conditional forgiveness — Israel under law had to forgive others first to be forgiven.
But through Paul, Christ revealed something brand-new — the dispensation of grace (Eph. 3:2).
In this age, we don’t forgive to earn God’s forgiveness; we forgive because we already have it in Christ. ✝️
💡 Law vs. Grace — Two Different Programs
🔹 Israel’s program (Prophecy):
• Forgiveness was tied to their covenant and obedience (Matt. 6:14-15; Matt. 18:35).
• They were to pray “Thy kingdom come” — waiting for God’s earthly kingdom. 🌍
🔹 The Body of Christ (Mystery):
• We are complete in Christ (Col. 2:10).
• Our sins are already forgiven (Col. 2:13).
• We are accepted in the beloved (Eph. 1:6).
No temple, no priest, no sacrifice, no conditions — just grace! 💝
🙌 Why This Matters
Many believers still pray “forgive us our debts” from the Lord’s Prayer without realizing that prayer belonged to a different dispensation — Israel under the law, before the cross was understood.
Paul’s message reveals that through Christ’s finished work, forgiveness is not something we ask for — it’s something we already have. 🕊️
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” — Ephesians 1:7
So instead of praying to be forgiven, we thank God that we are forgiven. 🙏💖
🎯 Right Division Brings Peace
When we rightly divide the Word (2 Tim. 2:15), the confusion disappears:
• Israel’s prayer points to conditional forgiveness.
• Paul’s gospel declares complete forgiveness.
That’s the difference between law and grace, between seeking mercy and resting in it. 🌅
🕊️ In Christ, we don’t live hoping to be forgiven — we live forgiven.
That’s true freedom. ❤️
