Joint Statement: The @ReformsGroup deeply appalled by the lethal violence meted out by security agencies against peaceful protesters in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, who were protesting the government’s secretive plan to host a United States backed fifty-bed Ebola quarantine facility at the Laikipia Air Base. We will not allow Kenya to become an offshore risk-containment zone while our local democratic institutions are trampled upon. #freetoprotest

My submission to the NSW Inquiry - Measures to prohibit slogans that incite hatred I was technically late (I didn’t finish it until just before midnight), so I don’t know if they will accept it. As the upload functionality was closed, I had to email it, and I requested confirmation one way or the other, but there has been total silence. Submissions closed on the 12th and today is 15/1 and about 1445 hours, the submission are still not available on the website! They make us work hard, but don’t respond in kind and with respect. @ChrisMinnsMP Recommendations 1. The Committee should extend the submission period and reconvene when key stakeholders have adequate opportunity to provide considered input. 2. Any inquiry into hateful speech should examine all forms of hatred equally, including Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. 3. The Committee should commission constitutional advice on whether proposed measures meet the Lange/McCloy test before making recommendations. 4. The UK, France and Germany should be treated as cautionary examples rather than best practices. 5. The Committee should examine the enforcement of existing laws before recommending new offences. 6. Any legislative response should be proportionate, necessary, and not designed to suppress legitimate political advocacy. 7. Decisions about permissible speech should not rest with police or other authorities without judicial oversight. The Bjelke-Petersen era demonstrates the consequences. 8. The inquiry should acknowledge the context that has prompted protests, including the ongoing conflict in Palestine and the findings of international courts. 9. The Committee should recommend the establishment and period of use of a centralised, verified national hate crime database as a precondition to any expansion of criminal offences. #Auspol2025 #FreeToProtest @PaulTooleMP @GreensTamara @EdmondAtallaMP drive.google.com/file/d/17nu…

🛑Press Statement The media is not the enemy, it is the watchdog of our democracy. When the cameras go dark, impunity thrives in the shadows. We call on the @CA_Kenya and State agencies to immediately reverse this directive and allow free, fair, and responsible coverage of national events. #FreeToProtest

Press statement: We remind the @CA_Kenya, that the media acts as a watchdog, documenting the actions of both protesters and law enforcement. Live broadcasts can deter excessive force and human rights violations by ensuring that actions are witnessed and recorded. #FreeToProtest

@ReformsGroup, @LawSocietyofKe and @KenyaMedics_KMA joint statement. The directive by the @CA_Kenya to halt live protest coverage violates Article 33(2). Broadcasting peaceful protests does not amount to propaganda for war or incitement to violence. #FreeToProtest

Roadblocks and intimidation are not normal, they violate constitutional rights. Article 37 guarantees the right to peacefully assemble and protest, while Article 39 protects freedom of movement. Kenyans must be #FreeToProtest, without violence or fear. #June25th
Wangechi Kahuria – Exec, Dir. IMLU: The mere presence of roadblocks is not a normal occurrence. It is not fair to say that the lockdown does not interfere with the normal running of the day…Today people should be allowed to go mourn and go back home, there should be no violence #CitizenDayBreak @OBurrows
