Large litter box. I prefer freshstep unscented scoopable litter. The perfume ones can give your cat allergies. Duranimals scooper. Best one on the market. A small covered garbage can to scoop the litter into. You’ll need a water bowl. A food bowl. Tons of advice on pet food out there. I’ve found a mix of dry and wet food fed at different times works best. As far as a cat toy…catnip mice are great. Try to get soft ones so it won’t hurt when you step on them in the middle of the night. Avoid strings. Cats eat them and it wraps around their intestines. Keep string, rubber bands and dental floss away from them.
Food, some toys, litter box and litter and you’re set. Don’t even think about bringing in the cat without a litter box being there first. All you have to do is show them where the litter box. They know what to do. If you don’t have one they will pee somewhere else.
An empty box makes a great cat thing for a cat to jump into and play with. Balled up paper is fun to throw and chase. Don’t go nuts on toys. But a nice soft mousie is appreciated.
Other than that, you’ll need a vet visit for a checkup unless a shelter already took care of that.
Keep the fragile things off the counters and dressers. Cats will jump everywhere! 😂
Oh, and be patient. A new cat will be terrified of you and your house. Let him/her explore on their own. Don’t chase. Don’t try to drag the cat out from under the bed. Just wait. Let them come to you. Use a soft gentle voice. No sudden hand gestures. Go slow.
Good luck with the kitty!!
