Hahaha fair. I recall how you were in the FriendFeed era. You do have a high capacity for excitement and optimism. It’s a good thing

This is Paul Buchheit. Paul Buchheit is an American computer engineer and entrepreneur best known as the creator and lead developer of Gmail. He built the initial version of Gmail in a single day by repurposing code from Google Groups to create a searchable indexing engine for his own emails. He also engineered the contextual advertising prototype that evolved into AdSense. In 2006, After leaving Google, he co-founded FriendFeed, a social media aggregator. The platform was acquired by Facebook in 2009 for approximately $50 million, serving as Facebook's largest acquisition at the time. Buchheit later joined the prominent startup accelerator Y Combinator as a partner, later co-founding the YC Continuity Fund. He is recognized as one of Silicon Valley's most successful early stage angel investors, backing massive companies like Stripe, Airbnb, Reddit, Dropbox, and Twitch. He currently operates as a Partner Emeritus at YC and invests through his own firm, Standard Capital.

Everything old is new again. There is a class of software that this will fit (and it is not all classes of software, but what excites the Neynar thesis), Farcaster and the Neynar miniapp thesis is just one angle. Replit was aiming for such simplicity too. And Sup is doing similarly with their patches. Now, who remembers Apple OS X Dashboard? Do you realise how easy it would be to do widgets today? Better yet, who remembers that Red Hat (yes the Linux folk), started Mugshot, with a similar idea back in 2006? Yes, 20 years ago, with FriendFeed (18 years ago) figuring out social aspects a little later. The big promise was web widgets. Easy when you just have to write HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
ai has made it easier to build software but we still talk about software like the goal is always to make an app people use forever. I think a lot of new software will be more like media. you make it quickly, share it in a feed, people use it in the moment, remix it, discard it, maybe fork it, maybe forget it existed by dinner. that feels wrong if you grew up thinking every useful piece of software needs a pricing page, onboarding flow, or a roadmap. but most things people consume on the internet are already ephemeral. memes are ephemeral. posts are ephemeral. videos are ephemeral. group chats are mostly nonsense with occasional alpha. software has been expensive enough that we expect it to justify its own existence. as it gets even cheaper to make, software will become content. and social feeds are a much better surface for this than app stores. we’ve been playing with this at farcaster. more soon 👀

blogs.itmedia.co.jp/projectd…

Steve Hilton received his American Citizenship in 2021. Now even though he's British... his family lineage is Hungarain. His parents, whose original surname was Hircsák  (which some sources spell "Hircksac"), emigrated from Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. When he was just a British citizen he served as the Director of Strategy to the Prime Minister from 11MAY10-2MAY12. He hosted The Next Revolution, a weekly current affairs show for Fox News from 2017 to 2023. He was a co-founder of the crowd-funding platform Crowdpac, but resigned as CEO in 2018. Mind you when he was the CEO Crowdpac suspended all Republican candidate accounts, citing the strong connection between GOP candidates and then-President Donald Trump. The other founder of crowdpac was Brad Parscale. Brad Parscale is an American digital consultant and political strategist best known for leading digital operations for Donald Trump's 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns. Now Hilton's wife has been apart of a lot of things... His wife, Rachel Marjorie Joan Whetstone, was in charge of communications and public policy at Google for nearly a decade, and served as senior vice president of communications and public policy for Uber until April 2017. She then joined Facebook as vice president of communications of its WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger products. In August 2018, Whetstone became the chief communications officer (CCO) of Netflix. As of March 2025, she oversees communications at the AI startup Sierra. The AI startup Sierra was co‑founded and is led by Bret Taylor (co‑founder/CEO) and Clay Bavor (co‑founder). Bret Taylor led the team that co-created Google Maps, was the chief technology officer (CTO) of Facebook (now Meta Platforms), chairman of Twitter, Inc.'s board of directors prior to its acquisition by Elon Musk, and co-CEO of Salesforce (alongside cofounder Marc Benioff). Taylor was also one of the founders of FriendFeed and the creator of collaborative productivity software Quip. Clay Bavor is a technology executive and product leader — formerly a longtime Google executive who led products in virtual/augmented reality (including at Oculus/AR efforts), cloud and collaboration. Whetstone's maternal grandfather was Antony Fisher, founder of several libertarian think tanks, including the Institute of Economic Affairs (based in the UK) and the Atlas Economic Research Foundation (now known as Atlas Network) which is a 501 (c) (3) here in the states. There's always a reason for President Trump to bring people to the front whether its an endorsement or not... its meant for people to DIG on them.
