Lieutenant General Neeraj Shukla, AVSM, SM, GOC, 4 Corps, accompanied by Major General Rohin Bawa, YSM, SM, GOC, 21 Mountain Division, and their team, visited the Geological Survey of India (GSI), North Eastern Region Headquarters, Shillong, to explore potential collaboration in providing geoscientific support for site selection of Army establishments across the North Eastern Region.
During the interaction, GSI presented the findings of geotechnical investigations carried out at Dungpin Tso, Bhumja, and Baisakhi sites on the request of the Indian Army. The studies addressed critical aspects including Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) potential, land suitability assessment, and geotechnical stability evaluation for strategic infrastructure planning.
The meeting was attended by Dr. S. K. Kulshrestha, Deputy Director General & Head of Department, GSI NER; Dr. Pankaj Jaiswal, Deputy Director General & RMH-IV; and other senior officers of GSI, RHQ.
The visit provided a valuable platform to strengthen collaboration between the Indian Army and GSI for enhancing infrastructure resilience and informed decision-making in the geologically sensitive Himalayan terrain of Northeast India.
