I'm reminded that I have now been living, working and loving being in South Africa for 30 years as of today
I arrived with R200, 9 cardboard boxes, 2 suitcase and a fresh drivers license in Johannesburg in mid-May 1996 to take a posting as an equity analyst with Standard Equities where I had been directly recruited from my stockbroking post in London by (then) Head of Research James Allan. Happy days at Diagonal Street office and Standard Bank super block in Simmonds Street
Over the many years in South Africa I've been with
Genbel Securities (Gensec) - still the best time I ever had in my entire career with amazing individuals 1997 - 2001. Headhunted by Gensec legends Darron Walker and Lucien Verrezen after a very very boozy lunch at Moyo in Zoo Lake
Then went to BoE Securities / Nedcor Securities where I worked with some talented individuals many of which I'm still in contact with (hey, Syd, Pete, Marcelle, Sean and David). 2001 - 2005
Then landed a job with a broker I coveted to work for, the esteemed Barnard Jacobs Mellet and really enjoyed that period. 2005 - 2008
Then I was at Vunani Corporate Broking and Securities and I developed a lot of the style of work concepts I am still using
From 2019, as
@smalltalkdaily Research I went on my own and it has been a total rush, a joy to work for myself with a vast range of corporates and institutions who supported and continue to support my independent works. Its not work, I adore every single day and I am grateful to all around me
That's 30 years of working on the
#JSE from South Africa (before that I worked in London covering the
#JSE from 1994 - 1996) with a broker
In total, 14 years in Johannesburg and 16 years in Cape Town and some 33 years in the market covering
@JSEgroup stocks (mainly small-to-mid caps) and its still been the best move I ever made after I decided to quit engineering (1985 - 1990) and go back to University and follow my real true passion ... equity markets
Happy 30th anniversary ... here to the same post after 40 years and 50 years
