October Tip: Change the Narrative Around “Failing”
By October, some students already believe:
“I’m bad at this.”
“This grade defines me.”
Let’s shift that.
Reassessment isn’t just a policy—it’s a message:
➡️ You can still learn this.
➡️ You’re not stuck.
➡️ We grade what you know now.
“Learning doesn’t have an expiration date.”

I think sometimes we need to step back and just go, "Do my students actually need a score on this, or do I just feel like my grade book needs a score to make the adults happy?"
With standards based grading, “they can’t hide their weaknesses behind their strengths.” Love this observation by a teacher. When we know where kids need help, we can help them get where they need to be. #SBG#gradingforlearning
