This is exactly why “effort” should not be part of an academic grade.
Academic grades should reflect mastery of standards, not compliance, behavior, or whether adults believe a student “tried hard enough.”
Effort, responsibility, participation, and work habits matter deeply… but they should be reported separately from academic achievement.
Otherwise grades stop measuring learning and start measuring subjective adult perceptions.
