#Ethiopia's "her time to grow" initiative empowers female entrepreneurs amid challenges
International Development Enterprises (iDE) launched the "Her Time To Grow" (HTTG) initiative in 2022 to improve agricultural resilience, financial security, and opportunities for female entrepreneurs in Ethiopia,
#Ghana, and
#Zambia. The project has already assisted over 25,000 women.
Menen Abate, the HTTG project manager for iDE Ethiopia, describes the project's goal as enhancing "economic empowerment, well-being and inclusive growth for women in Ethiopia." The initiative provides financial literacy training, business support, and establishes Farm Business Advisors to connect women with sustainable markets and technical training.
The project employs a Human Centered Design approach, engaging directly with female entrepreneurs to identify their challenges. This has led to the development of targeted solutions, such as setting up childcare centers to address the difficulty women face in managing both motherhood and business responsibilities.
