Trish has mentioned the main points already but we also direct to the universally speaking booklets and checklist to support staff and families in becoming more familiar/confident at the ages and stages of development.

As an outreach team is specialist teachers we also work in collaboration with SaLt so this could be in addition to further assessment and interventions by us or SaLT but we would always reassess and offer further advice.

The Big Book of Ideas is also useful in giving activities for settings to use to work specific difficulties as part of intervention. We would then reassess before offering further advice / intervention.

We use WellComm and find it a useful tool in confirming our thoughts and observations and those of staff in the setting. It’s also useful for highlighting and explaining receptive v expressive to families and staff.

As a carer of a child with complex SEN, and an SLT, I see two sides. Do I prefer not to re-tell repeatedly? Yes. Do I expect professionals to use clinical time revising all history? No. Priority for med history obv, but for communication, OT etc, I can summarise current skills.
