I always wondered this, as a self dubbed beginner homelabber, I could set up like headscale or something, but don't tailscale/cloudflare just do the job"better" and more securely? Or is the setup trivial to fully cut them out?

Mine's a bit messy. I have to reorganize. It hosts Immich, a few testing things, and RTL Airband which records local fire/EMS dispatch (so when someone asks about why they heard sirens at a specific time, I can figure an answer out.

The VMUG changes were a shitshow and deliberately designed to push the community into vCloud Foundation certs and developing knowledge on that stack. Not every homelabber has the hardware (or the desire) to deploy a full private cloud just for self learning
