📅 [My week in review] It was #Strasbourg plenary week again in @Europarl_EN where I had a very interesting breakfast workshop with the 'Cleantech Friendship group', including Energy Commissioner @DanJoergensen discussing the need for electricity grid investment and innovation in Europe. In the chamber, I had the opportunity to speak on the latest as regards Gaza and also the upcoming EU-Africa summit. One major vote which took place was on the @vonderleyen proposal, backed by some govts, to water down EU green rules for global supply chains (the so-called #CSDDD law) which I helped negotiate in the last term. It was a difficult debate but in the end the vote failed, showing the increased influence of the far-right in this parliament. Also included were a few media slots, for example with @breakingnewsie and @AlJazeera. Last night, I then flew from Stuttgart #hometovote #aras25.

This Ireland team - and three people who stepped off the Aviva pitch the last time today- have given their communities, their country, and all of us some huge joy, in recent seasons, and all through this Six Nations. Rugby is something that - along with two #HomeToVote referendums, and serving as a board member at @IrishinBritain - defined my links to home, as an Irish citizen living in London. Settled back in Dublin, I've fitted out two small children in green jerseys. (One now asking why there's water in my eyes.) I have been so proud of all the members of this team, however the score ends at 80 minutes. Go raibh maith agaibh, lads. You will always be the team of us.

Anybody who lives abroad, remains on the register and votes is breaching the law of the state. #HomeToVote is unconstitutional. As a disenfranchised expat, I firmly believe I should have the right to vote for my president and in referendums. But definitely not in Dail elections.

Seriously. I remember weeping at my computer watching Ireland go #HomeToVote because it was about taking care of all women. Tonight, I weep in FL because a 57% majority couldn’t secure women’s right to full maternal healthcare. It’s about humanity. And compassion.

Reminds me of the Ireland #HomeToVote campaigns to repeal the abortion ban, in 2018.
