IPSO is failing the public and enabling unethical journalism. Following the Leveson Inquiry, the UK was left with a sham regulator—one controlled by the very newspapers it is supposed to hold accountable. As Lord Leveson famously put it, they are still marking their own homework. The evidence is clear: 📉 In 2022, only 0.6% of complaints to IPSO were upheld. ⏳ On average, it takes almost six months for a complaint to be processed. 💰 IPSO has never launched a formal investigation or fined a national newspaper. This systemic failure has real consequences. In the case of The Sun’s intrusion into the grief of John Chapman’s family, IPSO upheld the complaint—but only after 232 days. By that point, the harm had long been done, and the only sanction imposed was the publication of a small adjudication. No fine. No investigation. No accountability. This is not independent press regulation. It is a system designed to protect newspapers, not the public. If IPSO refuses to enforce ethical journalism, who will? It is time for meaningful reform. 📽️ Watch the full story in our film: youtube.com/watch?v=36JKXEH4… 📝 Take action—demand real press accountability.
