it would be a shame to see id go, specially with the powerhouse that is the idTech engine

Hopefully this is not the case as arkane is currently working on blade. Plus, despite the commercial hiccups. ID is too much a powerhouse to drop and is always active. Wanna trim the fat @asha_shar? STOP USING UNREAL! As you guys already own 3 powerful engines! Idtech being one!
Insider Gamingโ€™s Mike Straw recently claimed that two Xbox studios are reportedly at risk of closure, with one of them supposedly being a studio that would โ€œcome as a shock to everyone.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ If weโ€™re speculating about which studio could be the โ€œshockโ€ closure, these are the two names that come to mind: Arkane Lyon The studio behind Dishonored 2, Death of the Outsider, and Deathloop, currently developing Marvelโ€™s Blade. Most people would consider them safe, which is exactly why their closure would be so surprising. We know very little about Bladeโ€™s development, and if the project is facing major delays, budget concerns, or other challenges, Xbox could be forced to make a difficult decision. Marvel projects arenโ€™t cheap, and expectations are undoubtedly high. id Software The legendary studio behind DOOM, Quake, and RAGE. This would arguably be the biggest shock of all. Theyโ€™re one of the most iconic FPS developers in gaming history and a cornerstone of Xboxโ€™s shooter portfolio. Beyond the upcoming DOOM DLC on July 7, we have very little visibility into the studioโ€™s long-term plans. The other question is whether franchises like DOOM and Quake still have enough room to grow in todayโ€™s market. Both series remain highly respected, but theyโ€™re built around a style of FPS design that differs from many of the industryโ€™s biggest modern shooters. The key question is whether Xbox sees enough long-term growth potential in these franchises to justify continued investment. Only Microsoft knows whether theyโ€™re meeting its commercial expectations. Itโ€™s also worth noting that id Software currently doesnโ€™t appear to have any open positions, and the studio doesnโ€™t seem to be listed on ZeniMaxโ€™s careers page either. That could mean absolutely nothing, but itโ€™s another detail worth considering. I hate this industry some days. It feels like every year we lose talented teams and great studios. ๐Ÿ’” Who do you think the โ€œshockโ€ studio could be?

ID lost their grandmaster of iDtech when he retired instead of working under Zenimax. Most of what iD has done since is try and fix the Creation Engine by replacing chunks of ye old Gamebryo engine with chuncks of iDtech.

Microsoft looking to monetize stuff? Maybe monetize IdTech and make revenue off of licensing the engine.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said he believes "there's more monetization of Xbox games happening on YouTube" than at its own company, following Xbox boss Asha Sharma's recent commitment to "reset" the gaming branch. bit.ly/3RYCur3

Xbox shouldve had every studio on idtech by now, id software would be a support studio teaching the rest of Xbox devs to use it, ninja theory would doing cutscenes cause it's all they were good at, and woulda kept tango cause they were already proficient with idtech

Id should be a support studio and all of Xbox developers should use idtech. Why are they paying epic royalties using ue5

I hope it doesn't become a IdTech support studio.

Thats the first engine that came to mind. It is showing its age and I would guess an overhaul is going to be a huge task. It is probably too late now but why not shift to idTech? Work with id for engine enhancements/maintenance and let Bethesda concentrate on game implementation

I mean...I always encourage people to play more Quake! Sometimes I hesitate to mention DeFRaG amid modern "speedrun games"; it's very "here's a 327-page book on idTech engine bugs, then we can get started" but CS surely gave you at least some tolerance for bunnyhopping. ๐Ÿ˜‚
