📚✨ Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library: One Dream, Millions of Books ✨📖
In 1995, Dolly Parton started a simple program in her home county in East Tennessee — because her father couldn’t read or write.
Her goal?
Every child from birth to age five should receive one free, beautiful book every month mailed straight to their home.
What began with just 1,700 books has grown into a global movement:
• Over 314 million books gifted so far
• More than 3.4 million books mailed every single month
• Currently reaching nearly 3.2 million children in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and Ireland
The books are high-quality, age-appropriate, and chosen by experts — from classics like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Good Night, Gorilla to Dolly’s own Coat of Many Colors. Many areas also offer bilingual editions.
Recent research across five countries proves it works: Children in the program show stronger early literacy skills, more shared reading at home, and a genuine love for books.
The future?
Dolly’s vision continues strong into 2026 and beyond. New 2026 book lists are out, local programs keep expanding in many places, and the goal remains the same: spark imagination and build lifelong readers — one free book at a time.
This Welttag des Buches season, let’s celebrate programs like this that make reading accessible to every child.
