In
#Bengaluru, over 75% of household
#TextileWaste ends up in landfills or is incinerated—contributing to pollution and taking up precious space. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
In April, we partnered with Bangalore Apartments Federation (
@BAFBLR) to launch a textile waste collection drive that champions circularity and community action.
With the enthusiastic support of resident volunteers, six apartment communities in Bengaluru—Prestige Greenwoods, Brigade Paramount, Shivnag Dharani Heights, Pride Pegasus, Terrace Gardens - Ittamadu, and Sobha Ivory—came together to collect an incredible 505 kgs of textile waste!
What happens to the clothes after? The collected textile waste is processed responsibly—recycled, downcycled, upcycled, or resold. What cannot be processed is sent to a waste-to-energy plant, ensuring nothing ends up in landfills. Currently, 81% of textile waste in India ends up in landfills, polluting the environment.
This drive is part of a larger inclusive and circular textile waste management model established in Bengaluru by Saamuhika Shakti partners Circular Apparel Innovation Factory (
@ApparelCircular) and
@Hasiru_Dala, which not only addresses waste at its root but also creates inclusive and circular livelihood opportunities for waste pickers.
