For generations, the oak tree has been our elder, offering shade, shelter, and its greatest gift: the acorn. The acorn is a promise of survival, a blessing carried through the seasons, feeding animals, birds, and our people alike.
To honor this gift, we return to an ancient tradition: building an Acorn Granary.
A granary is a keeper of abundance, a safeguard against hunger, a reminder of our connection to the land.
This August, we invite you to stand with us at the San Lorenzo Library as we build a granary together.
Learn how our ancestors cared for the acorn.
Help create a structure that will hold this sacred food.
Carry forward the story of the oak into your own hands.
We wish for you to drop by, lend your hands, your heart, and your presence. Together, we will honor the past and root ourselves in the teachings of the land.
We extend our gratitude to the Alameda Native History Project for catalyzing the revival of this Indigenous food system. And for those seeking to source acorn flour, we encourage you to reach out, the tradition continues when it is shared.
