1. Definition: Textile materials and products used primarily for their technical performance and functional properties rather than aesthetic purposes.
2. Other Terms: Also known as industrial textiles, functional textiles, performance textiles, engineering textiles, invisible textiles, and hi-tech textiles.
3. Properties: Designed for high physical, mechanical, thermal, and/or chemical properties suitable for industrial sectors like construction, civil engineering, transport, defense, medical, and healthcare.
4. Usage: Can be used individually (e.g., fire-retardant fabric for firemen) or as a component to enhance the strength, performance, or functionality of another product.
5. Materials: Manufactured using both natural and man-made fibers.
6. Classification: Divided into 12 groups based on applications: Agrotech, Geotech, Buildtech, Mobiltech, Hometech, Clothtech, Indutech, Meditech, Sportstech, Protech, Packtech, and Oekotech.

1. Launch: Initiated by the Ministry of Textiles to increase penetration and growth of technical textiles in India.
2. Goal: To position India as a global leader in technical textiles.

4. Target: Achieve a domestic market size of $40-50 billion for technical textiles by 2024 with an annual growth rate of 15-20%.
