We do get you wrong, because you see the implication of handing PID of every adult internet user in the UK to a government arresting people for innocuous commentary online, and say, "govern me harder, Daddy Starmer!"
Don't get me wrong, the privacy & digital ID concerns surrounding the social media ban are 100% valid. But tech companies, not the government, are the ones hoarding our data right now b/c they've been allowed to self-regulate.
We can advocate for strict legislation that forces these companies to use privacy-by-design age verification(these already exist!) before these rules come into force. As a society, we are perfectly capable of keeping a lot of plates spinning at once without dropping any.
Let's not obsess over the bathwater & accidentally abandon the literal baby.
We can ensure our digital identities are ironclad while simultaneously regulating the most toxic digital substance currently destroying teenagers' mental health.
