Narnur: A Journey of Transformation Beyond Recognition
(A Development Story After the Prime Minister’s Award)
On April 21, 2025, Narnur block in Adilabad district received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration. This was not just a moment of pride, but the beginning of a transformative journey for Narnur.
Following this recognition, Narnur adopted a water-centric integrated development strategy. Immediately after April, restoration works of irrigation tanks were taken up. A total of 10 irrigation tanks were rejuvenated, removing 79,300 cubic meters of silt and increasing water storage capacity by over 3 million cubic meters.
Under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, percolation tanks, check dams, and borewell recharge structures were constructed in villages such as Tadihatnoor, Sonapur, Nagalkonda, Janda, and Gunjaal. These efforts significantly improved groundwater levels and strengthened agriculture.
Through the “Mana Badi – Mana Neeru” initiative, rainwater harvesting pits were constructed in schools.
With improved water availability, special focus was placed on drinking water. With support from Naandi Waters, RO plants were installed in Narnur, Khampur, and Nagalkonda. An RO plant was also set up at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Narnur, ensuring safe drinking water in healthcare facilities.
In the direction of economic development, livelihood opportunities were created through Mahua laddu units, bamboo processing units, and dal mills. Market linkages and revolving fund support ensured better prices for farmers.
Lac cultivation was undertaken on 3,700 trees, providing sustainable income to 370 tribal families.
In agriculture, practices such as multi-layer farming, drip irrigation, organic farming, beekeeping, and oil palm cultivation were introduced. Scientific farming was promoted through Soil Health Cards.
Under the Aspirational Blocks Programme, housing initiatives and tribal development were taken up through PM JANMAN.
In the health sector, telemedicine services, Dharma Seva wellness programmes, and menstrual awareness campaigns were implemented. Anganwadi centres were strengthened, and nutrition melas were conducted. Two sub-centres received NQAS certification.
In education, digital classrooms, science labs, and libraries were established. The English literacy programme recorded a 48.6% improvement. AI-based teaching methods were introduced for children with special needs.
To preserve tribal culture, a Tribal Museum was established. Young Leaders Clubs were formed to nurture leadership among youth.
As a result of these comprehensive initiatives, Narnur achieved significant progress across sectors including education, health, agriculture, and social development.
Consequently, Narnur secured 1st rank in the Delta Ranking in the southern region for the September 2025 quarter. It also achieved 3rd place in the education category in the NITI Aayog State Use Case Challenge.
Narnur’s journey stands as a model of water-based, integrated development. What began with the Prime Minister’s Award has now evolved into a path of sustained and inclusive growth.
