We're going to ride off of the May's success and do exactly the same in June. JS8CALL Friday night at 00:00 UTC, June 6. Last month I collected 16 JS8 contacts from a park! If you've ever wanted to activate a park using a digital mode other than FTx, here's your chance. Join us.

IC-705 JS8Call wirelessly from MacBook Neo and enjoying the sunshine in the garden today decided not to go camping, couldn’t find anywhere suitable nearby which is a real shame.

What? You want to practice comms but aren't sending in Status Reports? What are you even doing? 😉 #CommStat #AmRRON #JS8CALL

JS8 is live in wfweb — and it looks nothing like JS8Call. Reinvented for the browser: QSO tabs, a command palette, chat-style group/@ALLCALL channels. Built like the chat app JS8 always wanted to be. Try it, nothing to install: wfweb.k1fm.us 👇

A bit of JS8Call earlier this afternoon. FTX-1 optima with CHA MPAS 2 and MacBook Neo. Going to give it another try this evening. Receiving APRS from Ireland so will see if I can make any contacts with that too.

🫡 Study Bitcoin. 🧡 Bitcoin ist Freiheit 🗽

This would be an awesome project to gut and put an SBC inside to run JS8CALL, NOMAD, and of course Doom.

Hams will topically use a handheld radio like this over repeaters on mountain tops. 50-100 miles is not unusual. If you want to get out further, you can use the lower HF bands. This is JS8Call. Text messaging over ham radio. I can hit the whole country with 20 watts on the 40 meter band.

Well... There is this one guy who has been talking about a "Cyber Pandemic". As a Ham Radio operator, we try to prepare for disasters. I am preparing for a digital disaster by developing a computer BBS communications system similar to what we had in the 1980s. No TCP/IP and no modern OS. Just code running on bare metal microcontrollers. Communication will be through Ham Radio data modes, Meshcore/Meshtastic and even Sneakernet. This is a Teensy 4.1 with a UART connection to a Feather RP204 for HDMI display. More features will be added by adding more boards using a pub/sub protocol over UART. Also a Meshcore board is connected over USB serial for send and receive. Full home automation, wireless security cams and more can be done with no wifi or internet. JS8Call at 20 watts can text message most of North America in one hop. Open Source Repo: github.com/WillWelker/Doomsd…

Meshtastic and Meshcore are great for local. If you are serious about off grid comms, get a ham license also. With 20 watts, I can text message most of North America in a single hop. This is JS8Call on the 40 meter band.
