According to @JavaCardForum, more than 20 billion smart cards support #Java technology for interoperability. Over 50% of these cards are for the mobile communications sector (SIMcards).
The source code is written in the Java programming language. The JavaCard platform specifications were created by Sun (maintained by Oracle) based on the standard JVM. It's a subset of the JVM features because of the limitations of the target devices.
