The "Four Seasons partnering with Motel 6" comparison is generous to Southwest.
Singapore Airlines Suites: $20,000 ticket. Private enclosed cabin with a sliding door. Separate bed and Poltrona Frau leather recliner. Adjoining suites convert into a double bed. 32-inch HD screen. Bang & Olufsen headphones. Vintage Cristal champagne on pour. Multi-course caviar service after takeoff. Condé Nast Traveler's Best Airline in the World 36 times. Best cabin crew on the planet three years running.
The airline they just partnered with didn't have assigned seating until January 27th of this year. For 53 years, Southwest passengers lined up in boarding groups and sprinted down the aisle for a window seat. That policy changed five months ago.
You can now fly a $20,000 private suite with a double bed from Singapore to LAX, then walk through the jetbridge and connect to a carrier where someone in a Hawaiian shirt just beat you to the exit row.
The airline with the double bed and the airline that five months ago didn't know where you'd sit. Four Seasons and Motel 6 might actually be too generous.
Southwest just announced a partnership with Singapore Airlines and the top comment is:
"This is like the Four Seasons partnering with Motel 6."
